Stonewall DFL Board Meeting - 13 September 2009 - MN State DFL HQ

Mary called meeting to order at 1:08

Al moved to approve agenda, approved unanimously
David moved to approve May 3rd minutes, approved unanimously
Mary will attempt to get last month's minutes from Mandy
Dyna read the Affirmative Action statement
Kevin Reich (candidate for Mpls 1st ward City Council) addressed the board asking for our endorsement

officer rpts:
Mary - asks us to re-familiarize ourselves w/ constitution & bylaws, also she's in contact w/ Monica Myers (Outfront) who is trying to meet w/ Amy Klobucar to sponsor the "Uniting American Families Act"

Tom - will distribute contact info via Google Group & also to RoseAnn...will get

Andy - $587.64 in acct...details sent to distribution group...al moved to approve treasures rpt - approved unanimously

duluth pride - disorganized...slow start, eventually got tables setup...need better communication...everybody should have a packet of supplies...events chair needs to coordinate w/ board members to find someone to setup/tear down at the event...offer free t-shirt to volunteers in out-state areas to help organize volunteers in their area to work pride booth...dyna emailed ideas for best practices for pride events to consider...mankato pride went well - it was the last pride event of the year

committee rpts:
communications: website updates coming...please alert tom via email w/ any updates that are needed
...tim moved that when a candidate gets the dfl endorsement, we remove all other candidates' stonewall ratings from the website & archive removed ratings in a secondary
file - passed unanimously

fundraising: beth olson fundraiser went well...we want paypal linked to website...tom, david & andy will coordinate this

membership: michael hasnt been able to meet w/ mandy so he's unsure how much data has been entered into the VANS at this point...mary proposed that tom take over the management of the database from mandy & create an access database to manage separate from the VANS (sync-ing w/ the VANS a few times per year) - there were no objections...we need to get postcards, petitions & other data from mandy so this data can be entered into the database...tom will have the structure setup before next meeting & can populate it w/ data he gets from warren (dfl vans guru) - mary will arrange for this &/or introduce tom & warren

political support: next cmte mtg oct 18, noon at El Toro restaraunt & then it will move to dfl hq to screen Tom Goldstein at 12:40...andy moved to endorse kevin reich for mpls city council, ward 1...passed 8 to 2...advises not to reconsider endorsement in mpls park board 5...mpls & stpaul events being planned for our endorsed candidates...al will send candidate event info to the google group distribution...jim llanas running in primary on tues for city council in maplewood - endorsed by victory fund & he could use our help in preparing...asks tom to remove "endorsements/screening still being considered" from website - tom agreed...david needs petitions before oct 8th to take to DC to present to them to the Senators...

stonewall natl conf call: vivian joined the conf call from state fair...townhall mtgs...ray buckley is highest ranking out glbt person in obama admin...natl
wants to hear info about all openly glbt candidates nationwide...should we host natl convention? (david suggests events & political support look into the idea for consideration)...natl equality march coordination...sample endorsements & services via brett burnham is avail to help local chapter including help with press...texas bar raid on the 40th anniv to stonewall raid...skull fractures to person who resisted arrest...standardization of dues collection occurring so chapters will get reminders...doma, dadt, enda & efca discussion occurred...rep patrick murphy working to abolish dadt...etc...another conf call occuring tonite at 8pm...she agreed to continue to participate in the calls going forward

leo told us that the matthew shepard law passed both the house & senate...anticipating obama to sign it on natl coming out day
david is working w/ the Meg Tuthill campaign & says she will be a big ally for us
al sugguest consideration of the lavendar ad sample ballot...tim will work on creating the ballot
vivian suggests lavendar (vanessa sheridan perhaps?) print an article about stonewall next to our sample ballot (barry can help negotiate this)
taste of dfl...we brought fruit salad & hummus...megan donated a 1980 kennedy for pres button for the silent auction
state fair...collected signatures for our petition there
founders day dinner: sept 26
tim moves to allocate up to $700 (to try to negotiate down to $500) for the sample ballot in a lavendar ad to be placed near an article about stonewall - passed unanimously
constitution day event is cancelled
next meeting will be Oct 18, 1pm at MN DFL HQ...Vivian has an excused absence
andy moved to adjourn at 4:20...passes unanimously
